FAUX WOOD TUTORIAL (AT BUGABOO'S BLOG)

I have a new and fun tutorial to share today.  It's funny, when I originally started blogging, tutorials scared the bajeebers out of me, but I have to say that I actually enjoy doing them now - at least when I have something to share:)  Today's tutorial is Faux Wood as taught to me by my friend and  SU demo, Debbie.  It's a very cool technique and easy!!

You will need a piece of Kraft paper (I know SU's is called something different now) cut 4 x 5.25, heat gun and 4 colors of ink - white CRAFT, and 3 colors of brown in increasing darkness - I chose SU Soft Suede, Close to Cocoa, and Chocolate Chip.

First you will ink your CS by rubbing the white craft ink all over to cover the CS.  Then, you will heat with heat gun until it's sticky to the touch - you do not want to completely dry it.

Then you will start with the lightest brown and go to the middle shade and  finally the darkest.  You will drag each ink pad over the CS several times to cover everything.  You can go over more times if you want to get a darker effect.

Now you have your faux wood, what do you think?  Pretty cool, huh?

Next step, find an image and decorate and embellish to create your project.  Here's mine:
I used this ADORABLE image from BUGABOO STAMPS.  Make sure you visit BUGABOO this week - there's a 50% off sale going on until July 31.

I colored the image with Copics and Atyou Spicas and cut out using nesties.  Base CS is SU Kraft, DP is Basic Grey.  Pearl and bling are e. by Prima, brads are American crafts and flowers are from my local scrapbook store.

I am also entering this card in the following challenges:
CARDS FOR MEN - recipe - 1 image, 2 papers, 3 embellies

TECHNIQUE TUESDAY AT SHELLY'S IMAGES!

This week is a bit crazy at SHELLY'S IMAGES BLOG with all the birthday celebration, but I do want to share a technique with you today.  It's pretty simple, but will help add a different look and dimension to your images.

You will need, some sort of glaze - I have JudiKins (SU crystal effects works the same way), a paint brush, some chalks (I have SU chalks), an exacto knife and your image.  I am using SHELLY'S IMAGES "shoes."
First you will take the exacto knife and color of chalk you decide to use and rub off a bit of the chalk with the knife.

So now you have a bit of powder.  (Please forgive all the other ink and spray stains on my mat - you are looking at the pink powder for this tutorial).

Now take you glaze and squirt some onto the powder you have made.  Then you will mix it around using the paint brush until the chalk powder is all mixed in.

Now, use this mixture the same way you would use paint.  You do, however, have to work quickly since the glaze is a glue and will start to dry.  This technique is nice because it adds shine and texture to your image - something you do not get with traditional coloring.
So, here is what the shoes look like after I finished painting them.

I then took the shoe image, cut them out and created this card.  I hope you like it and you find this technique fun and a nice way to achieve a little different look to your projects.  I used Prism turquoise CS, pink from color mates, DP is Bo Bunny.  Ribbon is from my stash.  I added Atyou Spicas and Copic coloring to the image.  Flowers are Recollections and gem flower is Darice.   Thanks for looking:)

This card was also made for the following challenges:
FRIDAY SKETCHERS - sketch
and STAMPIN FOR THE WEEKEND - use 3 DPs, 2 flowers, 1 ribbon and 1 gem or charm.

CRAFTY HO's Sketch Challenge

New week, new challenge at CRAFTY HOs' CHALLENGE, WOO HOO and it's my FAVORITE kind of challenge, a sketch challenge:)  Here's the sketch:
For my card, I chose an image from one of my FAVORITE companies, SOME ODD GIRL.  I colored her with Copics and Atyou Spicas and cut her with nesties.  I trimmed the bottom off of the nestie to fit with the sketch.  Then I used the edge of a Staz-on timber brown ink pad to add a little extra effect.  CS is Bazzill shimmery pink and brown and DP is Basic Grey.  I picked up the flowers and brads at my local scrapbook store last night while stamping with friends.  Sentiment is from a clear stamp set I found in my stash.   I'm really pleased with the way this card turned out, please let me know what you think:)
This card is also for the following challenges:
COLOUR CREATE - use pink, brown and vanilla based on inspiration picture
and EASY CRAFT PROJECTS - "All you need is Love" inspiration challenge.

Remember you have until 11:59pm EST on Saturday, July 24 to enter your project at CRAFTY HOs' CHALLENGE  using our linky tool.  Good luck!!
